Jon ‘skalie' Kalmar is a 35 year old professional player from Chorley. Jon began his poker career online and was a regular on Ladbrokes and Prima sites where his aggressive no holds barred style saw him at the top of many significant leader boards.
He gave up his job as an IT consultant after winning the Prima flagship tournament ($150k guarantees) one week and placing second in the very next event. Jon continued to make a successful career at the game for several years, joining Bad Beat during its inception as one of their first professional mentors and bankrolled players.
He turned his focus to the live arena in 2005 and experienced almost immediate success placing in events throughout the year, his first big breakthrough came in early 2006 when he gained 3rd in the main event of the Ladbrokes Caribbean Cruise.
Jon's greatest success to date has been well documented over the past 18 months. Having endured a poor run of form which had lasted for over 6 months he was considering returning to full time employment.
Jon was in Vegas and yearning for home, but was told the cost to change his departure back to England would be over $600. Instead, he decided to enter the last mega-satellite at the Rio just before the start of the Main Event. He ended up in the final 17 winning a $10,000 seat.
The rest of the journey was of course WSOP history as Jon went on to capture 5th place in the main event and $1,255,069 being eliminated by Ray Rahme in a coin flip.
Jon went on in 2007/2008 to cement his place as a world class professional by cashing in a number of WPT events.
He has an unerring ability to read his opponents whether playing live or online, that coupled with his aggressive nature and fearless attitude makes him a force to be reckoned with at any level, however, book a session with Jon and you will meet a relaxed and jovial character who will not fail to improve your game.
