Under the name ‘mitchhh’, Steve has been playing professionally online for over five years. Although he still maintains poker is his hobby, he spends on average 30- 60 hrs p/w playing online, and poker has been his sole source of income for 4 years.
His ‘hobby’ has allowed to him to purchase a home for his young family, and he enjoys the flexibility of his work, allowing him to fit it round them. He rarely plays live for this reason, although he already has a WSOP cash under his belt.
Steve has won over $450,000 on Ladbrokes poker inside 5yrs, over 90% of which was from MTTs, although in recent years he has topped up his earnings on the cash tables. One week in 2007 saw him win the Ladbrokes $9k gtd $20 rebuy on no less than 4 occasions, from over 250 runners each time. He also won both the $100 rebuy and $20 rebuy in the same night, whilst also coming 3rd in the $50!
He has had countless wins in bigger online MTT's besides, with many five figure wins, and won a record 4 ladbrokes cruise packages in a 6 month period!
This amazing level of consistency is no one-off feat either – Steve has had only one losing month in five years, which he recouped within two days of the following month. He puts this down to concentration and his bankroll management skills, something even top players are often lacking, and which he says is something everyone from beginners upwards should think more about. He preaches that although most players cannot perform to their best 100% of the time, you can optimize the good times and improve the bad times.
Featured in various poker magazines, and with a number of published articles, he is proof that a low liability strategy based mainly on MTTs can be a successful and profitable job, even if he still calls it a hobby!
