COLLIN MOSHMAN - SIT 'N GO STRATEGY
_RECOMMENDED FOR___________________________________________________________
All STT players!
Sit and go tournaments have been around for a while, but recently have soared in popularity, offering a tournament structure but with a limited number of entrants - You know how long they’re going to take, the variance is reduced by the small field, and there’s one starting every other minute.
Sit'n go's (known as SnG's or STT's) also provide good practice for mtt's, as you quickly get to short handed play, something that can take hours in an mtt.
Collin Moshman is a winning high buy-in sit'n go player, and his Sit'n Go Strategy was one of the first books written entirely about STT's. Although Moshman holds a degree in theoretical maths, there's not a large amount of maths content, instead there are some useful tables in the appendix, so the book reads quite easily.
The book has plenty of example hands, and it's often surprising how aggressive Moshman is in his general play, and you'll find yourself questioning your tight aggressive style at every turn. Although he agrees with accepted STT strategy of playing tight n the early stages, once the blinds start to go up it's aggression all the way. As is often the case, some of the more aggressive moves will only work in higher buy-in games, but the majority of the book will serve you well whatever level you play at. There's a lot in this book that you won't have seen before, especially not aimed at STTs.
The author focuses on the three phases of an STT - low-blinds at the beginning, mid-blinds in the middle and high-blinds at the end. Each phase requires its own strategy and this is how the book is structured. The first main concept introduced is that chips do not have a constant dollar value. The more chips you have, the less valuable each chip becomes. This is because the winner will ultimately have all the chips but only half the prize pool, so that the final value of the chips is half the value of initial chips.
Obviously this book is dedicated to online play, as most casinos rarely offer STTs, and it's nice to have an online professional giving you his tactics rather than a live player, as you find yourself trusting the ideas more easily, rather than questioning how relative they are.
Well written, easy to read, and full of proven ideas and tactics, Sit'n Go Strategy is the book that you need to read if you want to build a solid foundation for your single table tournament game. This is the STT version of Harrington, and is already a must-read for all STT players.
